We have plans of visiting Canada in November. My card had a data entry error because of which I have to apply for a replacement card. It can take 3 months for that.
As I have no other proof of permanent residency (as I have to return the card with error), alternative is to get the I-551 stamp on the passport that is valid for 1 year. It works as a short term replacement of the acutal card.
What is this I-551 stamp ? Is stamping that mandatory ? What kind of documents do you need while you go for this stamping ?
If one does not plan on travelling until we receive the physical Green Card - would we still have to do this stamping ?

Check out the names in the Writs of Mandamus lawsuits or the thread on Immig Portal about people filing writs of mandamus (http://boards.immigrationportal.com/showthread.php?p=173311)-- it is not "only Indians." It is anyone whose name, when run through FBI's name combination algorithm (http://www.cyrusmehta.com/related/Ayetes_Memo_on_Name_Checks.pdf) (see pg 2 onwards in link), generates a hit in the FBI reference files.
Just for the sake of illustration -- check out the names that appear in this google spreadsheet (http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=pBQx8tqZHHU2A6Q-Pv9sULw&hl=en) (you need a gmail account to view it) with a list of significant recent mandamus rulings.

Hello everybody,
I was just wondering why only the people (Eb2-I) with priority dates from 2004 get their I-485 approved? why dont people from 2001, 2002, 2003 dont get their I-485 approved?.....just curious to see how does it work?

If you want to make changes in the existing law, we have to do far more than a letter campaign. In the coming months, there maybe opportunities where we can try provisions and bills as we see any progress on immigration reform initiatives. Lobbying effort for big changes will have to be huge.
The most important work we can do at this time is to increase our numbers. We must get as many high skilled immigrants on H1B, EAD, F1, J1, H4 etc visas under Immigration voice. Once we have good support, we can try to work on various projects that helps everyone. We must try to spread the word about immigrationvoice on various forums, websites, communities etc and seek everyone's participation.

It is economy. DOL vitually halted PERM approvals. Companies are not sponsering GCs as they used. If you give an Ad today, you will get 10 times resumes. So there is no easy way to get an approval.
I think we are assuming that this will continue to be the case through Oct 2010. What if DOL changes policies with PERM approval tomorrow or the economy starts improving by March? EB2 ROW is current and there will be quite a few PERM's from them which will be adjusted immediately. We'll have to wait till the Sep results are in and the data is adjusted with 2005 EB2 numbers. Hopefully all < 2005 should be taken care of for EB2.

* AILA has reported the DOS advised AILA that "thanks? to" the decrease in demand for EB visa numbers from USCIS I-485 cases and 245(i) labor cases still being held in the Department of Labor, the visa number would progress forward as follows:
o Worldwide EB-1 and EB-2: There will be no cut-off date for the these categories.
o Worldwide EB-3: Unlike the DOS previous prediction that the large number of 245(i) filings would be filed during March and April 2001 and it would result in a surge of EB-3 number demand and would limit movement of the cut-off date, 245(i) cases still remain at the DOL and therefore there will be movement in EB-3 visa numbers.
o India EB-1 and EB-2: It will continue a rapid movement for the next several months.
o India EB-3: It will move ahead but may become limited down the road.

Guys,
We rode the same wave even last year with many of the same Guru;s predicting the same movement to 2007 and what we saw 2 weeks movement .
I do not remember the predictions of last year but the fact is , last year it jumped from Jan 2005 (in Feb/March) to May 2006 (in September). That definitely is a BIG movement.

I was on F1 when the lawyer filed I485 for me along with my husband in 2004.
I know another couple who did the same.
F1 is a non immigrant visa and filing for I485 is not appropriate but at the same time it's not the primary applicant. So i don't know if it is going to be a problem or not ( my PD is not current).

I am trying to find out if filing a DHS-7001 has actually resulted in resolution of the approval for anybody. i see a lot of folks requesting an ombudsman to intervene but wasn't sure if anybody got a positive response back -- like the case is now resolved or something.

The OP is great. He has created a new id to discuss L1 fraud. Will he be creating one id per issue... recapture, H1B abuse, outsourcing, backlogs?? wow!!!
Not sure why he wants his/ her identity covered up. This shows how good some of us are in trying to make noises in the dark and not doing anything about issues in hand.
In all, I still don't understand why L1Bs cannot work at Client site. I am sure that the L1 petitions specifically ask for Client site / work location. If Client site address is mentioned, the USCIS does approve the petition. If it is against law, they will not approve the petition. I know this for a fact since some of my friends are on L1.
How many times in this thread I have mentioned that I am getting replaced by one of these L-1B resource, I am a poor Oracle/DB developer who fortunately cannot be replaced by L-1B visa resources (as my skills is a common technical one). So once these violations impact your day to day life you look around for ways to stop this fraud. Its true that if I was a Nuero Surgeon in Phily or a Astro Scientist in Houston I wouldn't be interested in this violation :-) .... tomorrow let this scenario happen to you ... you would be first one to raise the alert.
Regarding 'getting burnt', I don't think there is bigger burn than loosing our jobs (which already is happening) and hope you know that there is something called 'anonymity'... ya lets see whos going to get 'burnt' here. We'll definetly keep you updated regarding the outcome.

This is not a bad idea.
If everyone think this is a good idea, then we need to do this with a little more planning than the flower campaign.

Unfortunately, you are showing your culture here with responses like this by clearly proving that you are incapable of provding a proper response. You are not making any case here, actually you are undermining it. This clearly shows the contempt that you have for the people of the country where you are desparately trying to immigrate to.

To quote it in a much broader sense, America is not the end of the world - period! Just take it easy and enjoy life...don't freak out if the visa bulletin updates and you don't get to file your 485...we are all in this country by our free will..if we feel the rules of the land are not fair to us..each one of us is free to leave....
On another front, if this actually does happen, I will be the first person to sue USCIS for all the expenses, lost time and headaches that I incurred in preparing the 485 application...I think USCIS can't get away without reimbursing everyone for all of the above...

They just brought all these people to the well to quench their thirst only to find out that it's but dried up.
