I am no Gandhi and don't want to be one. I am just a common man trying to make my ends meet. Only thing I know is that if you come before me in the line I am affected. It is not a DMV line where every one will get their License, it is a ration line where the items are limited.
Call it selfish call it any thing else but these are the facts after being in the USA for last 12 years and two different labors.

It was on Dec 2005 . Luftansa . Chennai - Frankfurt- Dallas . I was waiting for my boarding pass . I handed over my e ticket to the lady at the counter. Instead of issuing the boarding pass , she asked me about my H1B papers. I got confused . Why should I show my papers to this lady ? . Since it was my very first trip to US , I meekly showed her my papers.After that she had issued the boarding pass.
Friends, you may think I am very meek.This was not my first overseas trip. I had visited Japan previously. I didn't want to have fight with her and start my journey in bitter taste from the beginning.
Don't think only Non-Indians treat Indians shabbily. Our enemy is within.

I am not sure why you're so ticked off about this. If you do not have a proper visa, the airlines that took you there will have to be bring you back free of cost. Many an airline have been burnt by this and hence they insist on seeing your visa.

Finally received my passport this morning. Consulate sent it to VFS on Friday and I received it today through Blue Dart.

Here is a suggestion, who ever decides to join Vonage now, can use a referral link from one of the member, who is already a vonage customer, so that he can get 2 months off. Now the member who got 2 months off, can either donate two months bill amount or one month (if he choose to retain one month off) to forum.;)

His point is to keep documents ready in case you can replace the ones sent by your lawyer (paralegal really does that) whcih is often rife with errors.
Plus its easier to spot errors in your lawyer's work if you have correctly filled forms to compare them with.

Get this: A fingerprint check takes 24-48 hours but a name check takes upto 6 months!!! There are over 8 billion individuals on the planet, and how many have duplicate names? OK, now how many have similar names? And by the way, if you already have a fingerprint, why does name check take so long?
Reminds me of the scene in the recent Simpsons movie, where the government guy jumps up and shouts "Woo Hoo, we actually found someone we were looking for!". The bromide goes that truth is stranger than fiction, but it should be amended to "The truth is more idiotic that fiction".

Please consider the after effects of filing bankruptcy and foreclosure. Your credit has a lot of things to do, its not just the credit cards or loans. It may affect even your ability to get another job. Getting another apt will be a big problem as this remains in the credit file for along time. None of the good apt complex will offer the apt, and you may be forced to live in a crime-ridden area with your family. if you cannot make the payment or you feel that your home has lost its value, ( I hate to say this) default your payment for 60-90 days and you can file to get into the new federal program where your mortgage will be adjusted to pay a smaller amount.
I had bought a house 2 years back thinking that i will sell it after couple of years and make money. I know many people might have done that. I didnt knwo that having a house will become a burden for me wrt moving to a different place in search of a job. I do see jobs in cities outside my state and was thinking of applying for those jobs. My problem is that if i sell my house, i will have to pay from my own pocket.
Having a house in this market has become a pain as it has made me immobile with respect to good job offers.

My H1 extension and transfer to a new employer was approved around Feb 2007 and validity is between mar 2007 and feb 2010.
So did you guys notice a pattern here ?
hmmm.. i had noticed that for couple of persons whose approval was done early got their passport immediately but in you case it is not true!! :confused: so I guess it is difficult to decide any pattern.. (i am not sure whether it is related to H1 approval of any specific center.. if we decide some template and ask everyone to post all such details that might help but i am not sure whether everyone will follow that template...) was there anything complex in your case which you think might have caused this problem?

let's compile a list of famous immigrants like Albert Einstien, Henry Kissinger, Madalene Albright et al and change the face of what constitutes a legal immigrant. We need stories of doctors, scientists, engineers (the success of NASA) who were immigrants and benefited this country. Only option that person may have now is to change career altogether in the fields where desi consulting companies do not operate.
Job Zone 4 does not automatically translate to EB3. Even though the title maybe EB-3, if the requirements exceed normal requirements for jobs in Job Zone 4 then after a (successful) business necessity audit the candidate maybe able to file in EB2. After all I don't think DOL is that brain-dead (yet?) to say that somebody with 15 yrs exp is the same as somebody with 1 yr exp although they have the same job title (E.g. Software Engineer title at Google generally has more experience and education than a software engineer title at a desi consulting company even though both fall in job zone 4
Solar power here has inadvertently opened Pandora's box in the process of trying to solve a genuine cause for concern. For most IT people it is going to be very tough to get EB2 classification (especially if you are just out of school and have decided to apply for a green card). It is better for them to look out for research positions and apply under Computer Scientists as this will atleast enable them to apply under EB2. Is this a good thing: If you are non-IT yes, if you are IT no as it just convoluted the process even more.

It is a good thing that HR is talking to their legal dept. Legal should state that EAD status is not valid grounds of refusing employment. Consulting with their legal department is actually a good thing, have faith!
ok this is what I have
a) email with offer of employment and link to I9 form in offer letter
b) accepted verbally
c) background check done and report sent to me
d) called and was chatting when I mentioned EAD, was told sorry we cant offer you employment due to EAD, and that is has to EAD filed by this company only because they cant verify its legality et., one way was for them to do my h1b but they are not hiring h1b right now, so sorry. later they said they would consult with legal and get back to me. however i dont hold out much hope
e) i immediately filled out the i9 form
f) wrote email to them outlining our conversation from d) explaining my surprise (and boy! was a surprised!) and trying to make my case that I was not a risky bet for the company because of how interminably long I have been in this country and my spouse had GC already, but mine was not processed in time before priority date became not current.
g) hr wrote back, acknowledging our conversation and saying that they were not sure and that is why they were going to consult with their legal dept and will talk next week.
All I have are emails and offer letter.
I really dont want to go the legal complaining route if this can be resolved. But I am in a fighting mode. I probably would not have been so upset if I had not turned down other interviews...
