My prediction was more on the long term like 5-10 years horizon. REITs have lost almost 70% of their values, but that's because asset value has gone down. If you want to gauge the returns look at the dividend yields on REIT which hasn't gone down that much. Besides due to free fall of oil and credit crunch we have deflationary pressure affecting the rents.

I don't think deflation is going to last very long, and sooner than later inflation will come back. and rents will go up. The enormous spending that is on card along with the money printed for bailout will eventually lead to inflation and dollar decline. Though I would rather have a deflation, signs tell me it is going to be inflation, call it my luck I have often been on the wrong side of the table. Look out for 50% REIT dividend yields in next 5-10 years.

rents will sky rocket in our dreams (I own a little REIT - so in my dreams too). rents are mostly decided on supply and demand, location and vacancy rates. in 99% of the areas the rents will increase by a very small amount and there is a good chance that it will stay the same or come down (because of deals). there is a huge oversupply of rental apartments and townhomes/condos (which are converted to rentals in many places)
in other words - rents will not go up for long long time and in my experience in many places, it has come down by around 100 - 200$ in many locations

Let me add my 2cents here.

This came up when I was discussing this topic with my lawyer friend -

Person can still file for GC when he/she is at school in eb3 and after finishing school, he/she can file another one for EB2 and can port the date to earlier PD, just like eb3 person who started work instead of going to school. Remember, GC is for the future job and person can not claim that he/she needs to be employed in order for GC to be filed.

Law does provide equal opportunity to both for PD recapture (aka PD porting).

    SunnySurya -

I suggest, you should seriously consider discussing above legal point with your lawyer. I hope you agree with me that in legal court, rationality wins whereas emotions lose.

    Good Luck!

Disclaimer: I am green card holder for 6 years and personally this issue does not affect me.

Call (in the morning) 1-800-375-5283 and follow this sequence: 1,2,2,6,1,1,1,3,4.

If the Immigration Officer is kind enough you can ask if the Name Check is cleared. If he/she says No, you can ask him/her the date it was sent to the FBI.

I called today and they couldnt tell me anything at the 800 number they just said that they would contact me if they needed any information.... guess I just sit tight for now!

I guess we'll need to ADD to that number:
    1. BEC stuck folks who could not file in July 07
    2. PERM approvals starting August 07

to the 47,728. Plus multiply by 2.1( for dependents ). That'll give the total VISA numbers required for this category to make it Current.

If I have to guess-- (1) would be very less, may be 100-200 max
    (2) around 5000 ( just a PUMA)
    So, there are about 53000 EB2 I applications. and 2.1 * 53000 = 111300.

If we can create 111300, EB2 I visas then it'll be CURRENT. easy:)

I do not think you need to multiply 2.1 tp 47728. So it could be max 53,000

Why is everybody so happy? He has just briefly and curtly informed in the message that flowers will be forwarded. They won't be sitting on my desk and embarrasing me. There is no acknowledgement of the issue or any empathy or compassion with the sufferers. Now even the press coverage will make USCIS director look good. I don't see what's the positive development here.

They probably tried to pass the irritant to someone else. If USCIS continues receiving flowers, and therefore passing them on, one day even the soldiers will say "No thanks!". Then they will pass them on to someone else. But for how long?

I think this campaign will NOT lose its effect-- as long as we are persistent. Ideally, we should continue sending flowers at least so long as it does not become a MUCH talked about issue in the print and radio and TV media. My humble opinion.

I was Just watching CNN and was reporting a part of Lou Dobbs episode,
Tom Tancredo saying people overstay on H-1B after its "5 year" Expiration.
I think he do not even have a clue about H-1 B programme.

Sometimes I wonder how these bozos get elected to office. These congressmen who misread the law, how can they get away with making such false statements over mainstream national media ? What is particularly appalling is , why haven't we heard any outbursts from media or other government quarters challenging his statements. What a mess...

I definitely will. But first I have to mobilize enough people to support this.
    I appreciate that.

May I ask to share your legal defense for this point, when you have one?

    Thanks!

I heard that we have to provide all the address where we stayed in USA for filing I485. But very first time I came to USA almost 6-7 years back for short term and I do not remeber the actual address. Basically i do not remeber very first two address when I came here for short term. Is it a matter of concern.

I believe if you get your Credit score reports from Experian and others, it lists all the addresses you ever lived in USA. You can get free Credit score reports from agency once a year.

If you get different A#s then definitely there is a possibility of delays in the application.
I am not sure what happens with namechecks. Need to research further. My guess is you will have double chances of getting stuck in namechecks! This assumption is based on the fact that multiple filers need to undergo fingerprinting and background checks multiple times and thus chances of getting stuck in namechecks must also increase for them.

i heard from my lawyer that we shoud combine them...will talk to him again on Friday...lets see wat he suggests...

does anybody know the process of combining or withdrawing one set....

Dear..you seem to have gotten your GC..why the heck to you care..besides I applied ones in 00 and due to screw up attorney..had to apply again..also look in track it and immigration.com..there are people stuck from 99..please dont waste people's time by asking silly questions...

    Thanks for the clarification.

If your PD is 2003, then you are waiting for 5 years, not for decade. Just FYI, saying decade (instead of 5 years) is material misrepresentation.

    Good Luck.

We are travelling next month and our travel agent wisely suggested and booked tickets for us via frankfurt by air india. He knows that london is a problem especially when you are coming back on AP.

After reading thru the painful story of milind, I feel that I should never go thru london.

Thanks a lot for sharing your pain. What if I wish to travel through Germany/Netherlands/Swiss/France/UAE? on Advance Parole and if my H type visa is not valid anymore?

There are 3 kind of jobs -
    1. Jobs that require active security clearance - this kind of job is only limited to US citizen that have security clearance of that level. Yes, tehre are different levels in security clearance as well.
    2. Jobs that will be in unit where everyone must be US citizen. These kind of jobs can be filled by US citizen without the need of any security clearance.
    3. Jobs that are open for everyone - One must have active work authorization.

The vast majority of the jobs are of type #3. In any case, if job requires US citizen, the hiring place must be able to answer why that job is restricted to US citizens only.

    Not a legal advice

Let me share my wife's bitter experience. She told the employer about EAD. She got interview thrice and selected. Offer letter came and they mentioned that it is only allowed after the security clearance such as NAT.
    Employment verification was success.
Then when they sent papers to NAT clearance they rejected immediately as for NAT clearance one must be Green Card holder atleast.
The HR department mentioned sorry for their confusion as they themselves completely do not understand the whole thing.
So, any security clearance jobs for Govt/Military/AirForce dont waste your time if you are EAD holder.
