I believe that as long as interviewing is concerned companies may have the right not to interview particular kind ("EAD holders" for an example) and interview particular kind ("GC Holder for an example..)
Not a lawyer, obviously :) , but the first line on I-9 about discrimination covers "hiring, discharging, or recruiting or referring... It is illegal to discriminate against work eligible individuals."

When you say "according the our calculations", and you can only come up with years (& not 1 year, 2 year), you have obviously not done a very accurate calculation/guestimation.
I wouldn't put too much stock into it.

Both me and my wife are here on H1-B visas. I am filing 485 on my own without a lawyer. My wife is going to be my dependent. I have 2 questions:
Do we both need to fill out I-485s or should I attach a copy of my I-485 alongwith my wife's documents?
Also, does anyone have a sample covering letter for I-485 application?

Hello,
Called most of them, will call the remaining in next break. Responses were good from most of them. Couple of them asked for full address and some were just interested in name, (and or phone number) and zip code.
Will continue calling.

I think this is an opening and the outcome will depend on how we respond to it.
We are in the middle of a fight to get recognised of our problems and for sure the director responded to our non-violent protest.
What we do next will count.
Should we lay down our arms a surrender now? This will be a sign of weakness. Lets fight on.
Why is everybody so happy? He has just briefly and curtly informed in the message that flowers will be forwarded. They won't be sitting on my desk and embarrasing me. There is no acknowledgement of the issue or any empathy or compassion with the sufferers. Now even the press coverage will make USCIS director look good. I don't see what's the positive development here.

Folks,
My wife was stuck in namecheck during the H-4 stamping 3 years back. She gave full FP and got cleared in 6 weeks. Question i have is that i will be filing I-485 in July so is there a chance that she will be stuck in I-485 Name check as well? Anyone with experience? Also, if she get's stuck and I am cleared does the application get's stuck completely?

As I said before, I am never going to fly thru UK, even though I sill have a transit visa valid till Nov 2008. I can still feel the pain.
Last time I had travelled by British Airways in 2004 and I have made a resoultion for never tavelling with them again. We had a baby 2 years old and he was cranky and my wife asked airhostess to clean the feeder and she refused, saying that 'Mam we don't do this!'. Point is that they don't treat us well even though they get lot of income on routes to India. Also, look at those crappy old planes they deploy on these routes. As someone else said in this thread that it is time for Indian Govt. to wake up and be stiff on such lapses. I am sure they will listen, as they can't afford to lose big bucks coming from India anymore.

I have quick question about I-485 filing date. What will be the filing date, the day I mail the packet or the day they receive or the day they acknowledge the receipt.
I am asking this because I cannot file my I-485 before August 15th due to some personal reasons. So suppose I prepare everything beforehand and mail it on August 16th - will that be appropriate filing (assuming the dates remain current in August)?
